My Shortcuts Won't Save

Last updated: Apr 16, 20262 min read.

When you customize shortcuts, SketchUp saves the changes you make along with your other preferences. If you make changes to your shortcuts and they don’t save between sessions, there are two ways you can troubleshoot that issue.

The shortcuts you created are already used by your operating system.

Some shortcuts are reserved for your operating system. An example from Windows is Ctrl + Alt + Del for the Task Manager.

SketchUp should block you from creating a custom shortcut already in use by your operating system. In certain cases, it may allow you to continue using that shortcut in your current SketchUp session, but will reset the shortcut when you exit SketchUp. Make sure any shortcut you create isn’t already in use.

There was an issue with your SketchUp installation.

In order to make sure SketchUp was installed correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Log out of SketchUp.

  2. Exit all open instances of SketchUp on your device.

  3. Locate the SketchUp installer. If you have removed the installer from your device, you can download it on the SketchUp Downloads page.

  4. If you are on Windows, right click the installer and select Run As Administrator. On MacOS, run the installer as normal.

  5. Open SketchUp and customize your shortcuts again.
